'i.e.' is an abbreviation of the latin 'id est': (i.e.) "that is", "That is (to say)", "in other words", or sometimes "in this case", depending on the context. Never equivalent to 'exempli gratia' (e.g.).[1]
as in: Katie's really great i.e. I like her lots...
and: As long as it's for the kids (i.e. you), I will reluctantly swashbuckle to their little hearts content.
